Key California Regulatory Agencies

These are some of the most important agencies responsible for protecting the public and environmental health.  Monitoring of these bodies by the public is an essential part of any effort to protect the public health and environment.

The California Environmental Protection Agency

Cal/EPA is composed of six Boards, Departments and Offices.  Cal/EPA is a cabinet level "umbrella" agency charged with the protection of human health and the environment.

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment

OEHHA:  (OEHHA), is the state office responsible for developing and providing risk managers in state and local government agencies with toxicological and medical information relevant to decisions involving public health.  OEHHA’s mission is to protect and enhance public health and the environment by scientific evaluation of risks posed by hazardous substances.

Department of Toxic Substances Control

DTSC is charged by the state with protecting California and Californians from exposures to hazardous wastes.

Department of Pesticide Regulation

DPR is mandated by California to protect human health and the environment by regulating pesticide sales and use, and by fostering reduced-risk pest management.
