Key California Regulatory Agencies
These are some of the most important agencies responsible for
protecting the public and environmental health. Monitoring
of these bodies by the public is an essential part of any effort
to protect the public health and environment.
The California Environmental Protection Agency
Cal/EPA is composed of six Boards,
Departments and Offices. Cal/EPA
is a cabinet level "umbrella" agency charged with the
protection of human health and the environment.
The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment
OEHHA: (OEHHA), is the state office responsible
for developing and providing risk managers in state and local government
agencies with toxicological and medical information relevant to
decisions involving public health. OEHHA’s mission
is to protect and enhance public health and the environment by
scientific evaluation of risks posed by hazardous substances.
Department of Toxic Substances Control
DTSC
is charged by the state with protecting California and Californians
from exposures to hazardous wastes.
Department of Pesticide Regulation
DPR is mandated
by California to protect human health and the environment by regulating
pesticide sales and use, and by fostering reduced-risk pest management.
